Noted cardiac surgeon dropped from committee on curbing cut practice


Medical education minister Girish Mahajan said that since Dr Panda was never officially empanelled, there was no question of dropping him from the list.
However, most didn't provide details about what led to the move against the reputed surgeon. The name of cardiac surgeon Dr Ramakanta Panda, whose hospital Asian Heart Institute (AHI) kicked up a storm in the country by putting up hoardings against cut-practice, has been unceremoniously removed from the committee that is drafting the proposed legislation against the malpractice.
In a government regulation (GR) issued by the medical education department on July 28, Dr Panda’s name was missing from the list of medical experts and officials. Dr Panda has already attended two of the committee’s meetings that originally comprised nine members.
